Cauldron Lincolnshire sausages, mustard mash, veggies and gravy (Home meal)

Very good sausages, lots of flavour. Slightly weird casing - a bit papery? But still delicious.

Cheese sambousek (feta pastries), batata harra (fried potato cubes with pepper), hummus, halloumi cheese, and a salad of cucumber, tomato, onion and yoghurt (Al Balad, Edgware Road)

2.5/5 - A decent meal, it was delivered from a restaurant a few minutes walk away yet it was pretty cold on arrival. The hummus was bland and the potatoes soggy, but the pastries were lovely. NB: the salad and yoghurt were my own, not from Al Balad.

Smoked potato and poached egg ravioli with lightly roasted garlic emulsion (Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Chelsea)

4/5 - Admittedly, by the time this reached me my appetite had waned and the spectre of fullness was hanging over me. I was delighted to find that the poached egg hidden inside the ravioli was perfectly oozing, but struggled to eat the whole thing - not just due to fullness, but because it was so rich. The potato puree was definitely smoky, and also a little unappealingly grainy when tasted on it’s own. Refreshingly vibrant smashed peas sheltering underneath provided much-needed relief from the heavy ravioli. Rather than garlic, the sauce smacked of parmesan, and had a lovely flavour that was sadly overpowered by smoke and yolk when eaten in concert with the main element. A highly impressive dish - perhaps a little too rich for my indelicate palette!

Roast dinner with family for Xmas. Clockwise from top: roast potatoes, Quorn fillet baked with cheese and peppers, cauliflower and broccoli cheese, Brussel sprouts and stuffing.
